KLIA Duty Free Whisky: Prices, Shops and Allowance (2026)

Eraman runs the main duty-free shops at KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Here are its whisky prices, where the shops are, and how arrival shopping works.

By Whisky Malaysia Editorial Team7 min read

KLIA duty free whisky is sold mainly by Eraman, the duty-free arm of Malaysia Airports, at both KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (the old klia2). When we checked on 16 Oct 2026, a 1 litre Johnnie Walker Black Label was RM228 and Ballantine's Finest was RM114. You can shop when you fly out or, at Terminal 1, when you land. Either way, the 1 litre alcohol allowance applies on arrival. Below is the full price list from Eraman's catalogue.

Who sells KLIA duty free whisky?

Eraman is the main operator. It belongs to Malaysia Airports (Niaga) Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airports Holdings, as the Eraman website states. Its website also covers Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi airports.

Other names also appear at KLIA. For example, Tatler Asia described PBH, a premium liquor shop, in the Terminal 1 international arrival hall in Dec 2023. A 2022 Shopee guide also listed The ZON Duty Free at KLIA and klia2. However, we could not confirm that The ZON still trades at klia2 today, so treat that as older information.

Shops at KLIA Terminal 1

Eraman lists Duty Free Emporium 1 and 2 at Terminal 1. Its stores sit in the Satellite building, the Main Terminal, the Level 3 Arrival Hall, the Contact Pier and the Level 5 Departure Hall. Also, the refurbished Contact Pier duty-free mall reopened on 25 Nov 2024, with 2,750 m² of space and more than 550 brands, including liquor.

Shops at KLIA Terminal 2 (klia2)

At Terminal 2, Eraman lists stores at the Level 3 Contact Pier (International), Levels 2 and 3 of the Main Terminal, and Levels 2 and 3 of the Satellite. In July 2026, NST reported that Eraman reopened its upgraded 1,194 m² duty-free mall at Terminal 2. Liquor and tobacco are among its main categories.

Arrival vs departure: when to buy

You have two chances to buy KLIA duty free whisky. Each one suits a different trip.

  • On arrival (Terminal 1): Buy after you land, then carry the bottle home. It counts toward your 1 litre allowance. You also skip carrying glass through other airports.
  • On departure (Terminals 1 and 2): Buy before you fly out, for a gift or for your trip. The rules of your destination then apply.

Arrival shopping is the simplest choice for most Malaysians coming home. However, the 72-hour rule still applies. Under the Customs exemption order, residents must have been away at least 72 hours. Visitors must plan to stay at least 72 hours.

If you buy on departure and change planes elsewhere, ask the shop how to pack the bottle. Security rules for liquids differ by airport, so a sealed bag and receipt help.

KLIA duty free whisky allowance: 1 litre

The Royal Malaysian Customs travellers' guide allows wine, spirits, beer or malt liquor "not exceeding 1 litre in total". So one 1 litre bottle of whisky uses your whole allowance. Some websites claim a 1.2 litre limit, but the Customs page says 1 litre. Above that, you pay duty on the excess only.

Age also matters. 21 is the legal minimum age to buy alcohol, under the Food (Amendment) Regulations 2016. Enforcement was reported from December 2017, with the Health Ministry announcing the 21 rule on 16 Oct 2018. So bring ID if you look young.

Is KLIA duty free whisky good value?

For mainstream bottles, usually yes. Most KLIA duty free whisky comes in 1 litre bottles, while city shops sell 70cl. So compare like with like. For example, Monkey Shoulder is RM209 for 1 litre at Eraman. In town, a 70cl bottle typically costs RM253–RM310, so the airport wins clearly.

Johnnie Walker Black Label shows the same pattern. It is RM228 per litre at KLIA, against RM248–RM269 for 70cl in shops. Likewise, Jack Daniel's is RM159 per litre, while a 70cl Old No.7 in town costs RM195–RM229.

Yet some prestige bottles go the other way. Royal Salute 21 is RM1,378 per litre at Eraman, which is RM964.60 per 70cl. In town, a 70cl bottle costs RM748–RM750. Johnnie Walker Blue Label is RM1,350 per litre at KLIA, against RM868–RM929 for 70cl in shops. So for luxury whisky, check our whisky price Malaysia list first. Using Eraman's online catalogue

Eraman's website lets you pick a terminal and browse by category. You can also save items to a wish list. However, you cannot pay or order online. The site states that "duty-free item purchases must be made only at the airport".

So use the catalogue to plan. Check prices before you travel, then compare them with shop prices at home. Also note that the terminal selector covers KLIA Terminal 1, KLIA Terminal 2, Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi. Stock and prices can differ between them.

Tips for buying KLIA duty free whisky

  1. Decide on arrival or departure. If you are coming home, buying in the Terminal 1 arrival hall saves carrying glass through other airports.
  2. Stay within 1 litre. One 1 litre bottle uses the full alcohol allowance. Twin packs and a second bottle go over it.
  3. Compare per litre. Multiply the 1 litre price by 0.7 to compare with a 70cl shop price.
  4. Watch for promos. Dewar's White Label showed a 50% promotion when we checked, from RM238 to RM119.
  5. Keep the receipt. It helps if a Customs officer asks where you bought the bottle.

Finally, remember the drive home. Malaysia's drink-driving limit is 50mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, so keep the bottle sealed until you are home. For more ways to buy safely, read our guide to where to buy whisky.
