The Ardbeg story
Ardbeg dates from 1815 and sits on the south coast of Islay. Its neighbours are Laphroaig and Lagavulin, so the three are often called the Kildalton malts. Before 1815, smugglers used the same spot for illegal stills.
The 20th century was hard on Ardbeg. For example, the distillery shut in 1981. Then it reopened on a small scale in 1989, before closing again in 1996. In 1997, The Glenmorangie Company bought it and brought it back to full life. Later, in 2005, the luxury group LVMH took over Glenmorangie and Ardbeg with it.
Today, Ardbeg's official site calls its whisky the smokiest of all Islay single malts. It also talks about the "peaty paradox", meaning big smoke balanced by sweetness.
What makes Ardbeg taste smoky
Like other Islay malts, Ardbeg uses barley dried over peat smoke. The smoke leaves phenols in the malt, and these carry through to the spirit. Ardbeg does not list a phenol (PPM) figure on the official pages we checked, so we describe it in plain words instead.
Expect strong smoke, tar and sea spray. However, there is also lemon, vanilla and a creamy sweetness underneath. That balance is why many fans rate Ardbeg above other heavily peated malts. If you are new to peat, our single malt whisky guide explains the basics.

Ardbeg range in Malaysia with tasting notes
Four Ardbeg bottles appear on Malaysian shelves. The notes below paraphrase common descriptions of each one.
Ardbeg Ten Years Old
The Ten is the flagship and the bottle most shops carry. It comes at 46% ABV. So the Ardbeg price in Malaysia for the Ten is RM388–RM448, which makes it the usual starting point.
Peat smoke, lemon, lime and a hint of tar.
Smoky, then sweet, with vanilla and espresso.
Long and smoky, with a citrus lift.
Ardbeg Wee Beastie
Wee Beastie is younger and punchier than the Ten. It comes at 47.4% ABV. We found it at one mainstream shop for RM389, so stock may be patchy.
Raw smoke, pine and cocoa.
Bold and oily, with tar, salt and dark chocolate.
Short to medium, with ash and pepper.
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Uigeadail blends Ardbeg aged in ex-bourbon casks with Ardbeg from sherry casks. It comes at 54.2% ABV. As a result, it is rich, sweet and very smoky at once. Its Ardbeg price in Malaysia is RM707–RM822.
Smoke, raisins, toffee and Christmas cake.
Dark fruit, honey and spice over thick peat.
Very long, with smoke and dried fruit.
Ardbeg Corryvreckan (limited availability)
Corryvreckan is a strong, intense member of the core range. However, we saw it at only one online discounter, at RM430. None of the mainstream shops we checked listed it, so treat it as limited availability.
Ardbeg price Malaysia table (October 2026)
The table below covers every Ardbeg we found on Malaysian shelves. We checked whisky.my, W Wine & Liquor Warehouse and Whiskery for the core bottles. Note that online discounters may sell parallel-import or other-size bottles. So their lowest price is not always a like-for-like match.

Typical price is the range at mainstream Malaysian retailers for a standard 70cl or 75cl bottle, checked in October 2026. *Lowest seen is the cheapest online discounter listing. It may be a different bottle size or parallel-import stock. Prices change often, so confirm with the retailer before you buy.
The Ardbeg price in Malaysia for the Ten varies by about RM60 between shops. So it pays to compare before you buy. For other Islay options, see Laphroaig and Lagavulin, or check our best single malt in Malaysia list.
Where to buy Ardbeg in Malaysia
Whisky.my, W Wine & Liquor Warehouse and Whiskery all list the Ten and Uigeadail. If you want Wee Beastie, whisky.my was the only mainstream shop with it. For more trusted shops and delivery tips, read where to buy whisky in Malaysia.
How to drink Ardbeg
Most people sip Ardbeg neat or with a few drops of water. Water helps a lot with Uigeadail, because of its high strength. A tulip-shaped glass keeps the aroma in, so see our whisky glasses guide.
Ardbeg also suits smoky and salty food. For example, try it with grilled fish, smoked meat or dark chocolate. Our whisky food pairing guide has more ideas. As always, sip slowly and drink in moderation.
