We did not find the wider range in Malaysia. The brand also makes a Honey version, a 12 Year Old, an XO Caribbean rum cask finish, and 14 and 18 year old single malts. None of these turned up at the shops we checked.
The story behind the name
The distillery began in 1829 in the town of Tullamore, in County Offaly. The brand takes its name from the town and from Daniel Edmund Williams. According to the brand, he started at the distillery as a stable boy at 15 and ran it by 25. Later, his initials, D.E.W., went on the label.
Production in the town stopped for about sixty years. Then William Grant & Sons, the Scottish family firm behind Glenfiddich, bought the brand in 2010. In 2014 it opened a new distillery in Tullamore, so the whiskey came home. You can read more on the official Tullamore D.E.W. history page.
What "triple" means for Tullamore Dew
The brand builds its style on three triples. Each one shapes the taste in a different way:
- Triple distilled. The spirit runs through the stills three times, which makes it light and smooth.
- Triple blend. It mixes all three Irish whiskey types. Grain whiskey brings sweetness, malt brings fruit and pot still whiskey brings spice.
- Triple cask. It ages in refill barrels, former bourbon barrels and former sherry casks.

The brand's own easy serve is a citrus highball. Fill a tall glass with ice, add Tullamore Dew, then top up with lemon-lime soda and a wedge of lime. Ginger ale and soda water also work well. In Malaysian heat, a long drink like this stays refreshing.
