Black and White whisky price in Malaysia
The table shows the Black & White bottle we found at Malaysian retailers. "Typical" is the shelf price at a mainstream shop. "Lowest seen" is the cheapest online discounter listing. However, that discount bottle was a 1L size, and it may be parallel-import stock, so it is not a direct match.
| Expression | Size | ABV | Typical price | Lowest seen* | Seen at |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blended | 70cl | 40% | RM209 | RM95 | whisky.my |
Typical price is the range at mainstream Malaysian retailers for a standard 70cl or 75cl bottle, checked in October 2026. *Lowest seen is the cheapest online discounter listing. It may be a different bottle size or parallel-import stock. Prices change often, so confirm with the retailer before you buy.
We found it at only one mainstream shop, so stock can be patchy. Even so, it is worth a look if you want a simple, low-cost blend.
The story behind the name
James Buchanan founded his whisky firm in 1884. He first sold his blend as "House of Commons" whisky, in the Members' Bar of the British Parliament in London. The bottle was dark, and the label was white. So drinkers simply asked for "that Black & White whisky". In 1902, Buchanan made the nickname official, according to Scotchwhisky.com.
The two dogs came next. Buchanan picked a black Scottish terrier and a white West Highland terrier after seeing them at a dog show. Ever since, the pair has appeared on the label. Today Diageo owns the brand. That makes it a sister of Johnnie Walker.
The malts in the blend
Historically, the blend drew on Dalwhinnie, Clynelish and Glendullan malts. In fact, Scotchwhisky.com calls Dalwhinnie its spiritual home. However, Diageo does not publish the current recipe, so treat this as history rather than a guide to today's bottle. Like any blend, it also uses grain whisky for a lighter body. For more on how blends work, see our guide to blended Scotch whisky.

How Black & White tastes
Black & White comes in at 40% ABV. Diageo calls it smooth and balanced, made "for mixing and sharing". So expect a light, easy blend rather than a bold one. It has gentle sweetness and a soft, grainy body. The notes below describe the general style.
Light cereal and soft fruit.
Smooth, with gentle sweetness.
Short and clean.
Where Black & White sells best
The brand is big in India, South Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. By contrast, we found it at fewer Malaysian shops than the big names. So you may not see it on every shelf here. Still, the two dogs make it easy to spot when a shop does stock it.
How it compares with other budget blends
Here is how Black and White whisky compares with its rivals at mainstream Malaysian shops:
- Famous Grouse Finest: RM153–RM190
- Teacher's Highland Cream: RM170
- Johnnie Walker Red Label: RM183–RM213
- Ballantine's Finest: RM193–RM209
- Grant's Triple Wood: RM209
- Black & White: RM209
So Black & White sits at the top of this group, though the gaps are small. If you want more smoke, Teacher's costs less. On the other hand, if you want a very cheap bottle, VAT 69 sells for far less at one discounter. Our list of whisky under RM200 has more ideas.
